Delhi to get world-class football stadium
March 31st, 2010 - 10:42 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 31 (IANS) The Delhi government is planning to build an international standard football stadium in the city, it was announced Wednesday.
Arvinder Singh Lovely, minister of state for education and transport, assured Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) president Subhash Chopra Wednesday that the state government has taken over a six acre plot at Najafgarh in Southwest Delhi for the purpose.
“The minister has already taken the initiative to construct an international standard football stadium at Najafgarh on a six acre plot and it will be given to Delhi Soccer Association on completion,” said a DSA statement.
The minister also ensured that four school grounds would be converted into stadiums for the DSA to run its leagues.
International matches in Delhi are held at the 17,000-seater Ambedkar Stadium, but it does not match FIFA standards.
