Delhi i1 Series franchise named after Gypsies and Billionaires

Shah Rukh Khan New Delhi, Dec 6 (IANS) The Delhi franchise of the i1 Super Series racing league has been named Delhi Gypsies and Billionaires.

Management expert Arindham Chaudhuri, the owner of the Delhi team, Tuesday said the name Delhi Gypsies and Billionaires represents the pulse of the city.

“Motorsports is as much a sport for the gypsies at heart as for the billionaires by style! The name is as much a tribute to Delhi, the city which is often referred to as Dilwalon ki Dilli, as to the city which boasts of the highest number of billionaires and is undoubtedly the style capital of India!,” said Chaudhuri.

So far, the owners of five out of nine franchises have been made public. Besides Delhi, tehse are Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai, which was bought by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.

Teams from Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh will also compete in the city-based event, starting with the first round in Abu Dhabi Jan 7.

Each team will have an established foreign and Indian driver in its line-up while the third driver will be picked from the pool of talented young Indian drivers.

Radical S3 Sportscar having a maximum speed of 250 kmph will be used in the single-make series, which will have 12 races in a season.
