Delhi 85/3 against Mumbai in Ranji Trophy semifinal
January 4th, 2010 - 10:14 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Jan 4 (IANS) Delhi were struggling at 85 for three in reply to Mumbai’s 500 at stumps on the second day of their Ranji Trophy semifinal at the Brabourne Stadium here Monday.
Abhishek Nayar (156), Ajit Agarkar (63) and Iqbal Abdulla (69) propelled Mumbai’s total to 500 all out.
Mumbai’s fast bowlers then removed Mayank Tehlan (5), Aditya Jain (11) and Mithun Manhas (5) to leave Delhi at a precarious situation.
At stumps, Shikhar Dhawan (36) and skipper Rajat Bhatia (27), surviving a dropped chance, were looking to revive the innings with an unbeaten 50-run stand.
Resuming at 329/4, Mumbai received the first jolt when Agarakar spooned a catch to Manhas off by left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra (4-89).
Ramesh Powar was the next to be dismissed, clean bowled by Mishra.
But overnight batsmen Nayar batted patiently and together with Abdulla added 74 runs.
Nayar played 244-balls before Mishra got his wicket. He hit 12 fours and three sixes.
Usman Malvi added 20 runs to take the score to 500. Left arm spinner Mishra claimed his fourth wicket getting rid of Abdulla to end the Mumbai innings.
At Bangalore, Rahul Dravid’s unbeaten 209 helped Karnataka seize control in the second semi-final against Uttar Pradesh.
Karnataka ended their first innings at 575/7 declared before reducing Uttar Pradesh to 11 for two at stumps on the second day.
Dravid struck 26 fours and one six in his 340-ball knock.
