Defending champion Federer cruises into round two of Australian Open

Melbourne, Jan 17(ANI): Defending champion Roger Federer blasted his way into the second round of the Australian Open by beating Lukas Lacko 6-1 6-1 6-3 on Monday.
Seeking an open-era record fifth crown at Melbourne Park, Federer has now extended his winning streak to 11 matches.
The 29-year-old broke Lacko’s serve seven times to comfortably set up a second-round clash with Frenchman Gilles Simon, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
American eighth seed Andy Roddick and Czech sixth seed Tomas Berdych also scored routine first-round wins.
Roddick outclassed Jan Hajek 6-1 6-2 6-2, while Berdych crushed Italy’s Marco Crugnola 6-4 6-0 6-2.
Former semi-finalist Nikolay Davydenko was the first seeded casualty in the men’s draw, after he lost 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to Florian Mayer. (ANI)
