Defending Champion Alene Reta Wins Army Ten-Miler Race

tenWashington, Oct 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 26th annual Army Ten-Miler was held in Washington D.C. on Sunday and as expected the event turned out to be a huge success. The race which is attended by thousands of enthusiastic participants every year, is one of the much awaited events that are held on Washington, D.C. with runners from all across the world participating in it. Even this year, things were no different as an estimated 30,000 runners took part in the race with the aim of being the first one to cross the finishing line.

Although all the participants gave their best shot to emerge victorious, it was defending champion Alene Reta who turned out to be the winner. The athlete who hails from Ethiopia clinched victory by finishing the race in 47 minutes and 9 seconds much ahead of all the other participants. While reacting to his victory, a visibly delighted Alena Reta expressed his happiness about registering his second consecutive win at Army Ten-Miler.

While the first position was reserved by the Ethiopian athlete, the second participant to touch the finishing line in the women’s category was Army Capt. Kelly B. Calway who was success in completing her stint within 57 minutes and 20 seconds. Later, while talking to reporters, Kelly B. Calway said that finishing second was like a dream come true for her and it indeed felt fantastic. The Army Ten-Miler race which is held every year in Washington D.C. in the month of October, is sponsored by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington. Last year, the event took place ob October 4.
