Deepika wants to further lift her game ahead of Games
September 14th, 2010 - 2:26 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Sep 13 (IANS) A silver at the Shanghai Archery World Cup notwithstanding, teenage sensation Deepika Kumari feels she still needs to lift her game and wants to utilise the coming Edinburgh World Cup final to be in peak form during next month’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
“I know there is still scope for improvement in my game. I want to use the Edinburgh event to lift my game further so that I am at my peak during the Commonwealth Games in Delhi,” the 16-year-old told media persons a day before leaving for Edinburgh.
Daughter of an auto rickshaw driver, Deepika has fought poverty and family opposition to win laurels in top fight meets.
She emerged world cadet champion last year, before the second highest podium finish at Shanghai.
Asked about her chances in the Commonwealth Games, the Jharkhand archer said: “We have had a tough fights with the teams participating in the Games”.
Now world number 5, Deepika rates veteran archer and teammate Dola Banerjee as her idol.
