Dedication, determination behind Saina’s Singapore Open success, says father
June 20th, 2010 - 8:43 pm ICT by ANIHyderabad, June 20(ANI): Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal’s father on Sunday said that her Singapore Open title win was the result of her immense hard work and determination that she put in the training sessions with national team coach Pullela Gopichand.
Saina clinched the second Super Series title of her career by winning the Singapore Open with a straight-game triumph over qualifier Tzu Ying Tai in the finals in Singapore today.
“Saina is a very dedicated and determined girl. She takes about seven-eight hours per day for her training schedule. She is purely devoted to the game,” Harveer Singh said at his residence in Hyderabad.
Singh further said that he was grateful to Nehwal for making India and the family proud.
“It is really a matter of pride for our family as well as India. It is really a matter of pride for all of us, particularly me as a father. We are really grateful to Saina that she has brought a big name to us,” he added.
Saina took just 33 minutes to beat Chinese Taipei’s Tai 21-18 21-15 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The world number six had bagged her maiden Super Series title in June last year when she claimed the top honours at the Indonesian Open.
In a game that was close to start with, Saina was locked 18-18 with her rival at one stage before edging ahead. Saina had seven smash winners to show against her rival’s three in the opening game.
In the second game, Saina displayed a better net game and outwitted her rival in rallies to emerge triumphant. (ANI)
