Hyderabad, Feb 15 (IANS) Miffed at their matches being moved out of Andhra Pradesh, defending champions Deccan Chargers have threatened to sue Indian Premier League (IPL) if their matches are not brought back to Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
Deccan Chargers chairman V.Shankar said that IPL governing council’s decision was unilateral despite being assured of top security by the state government. Chargers are to play their matches in Navi Mumbai and Nagpur.
“It was unilateral decision by the IPL. They decided to shift all our home matches despite assurances by the state government of full protection in the conduct of these matches,” Shankar said.
“The Telangana Agitation Committee has also given us in writing that they want these matches to be held (as per schedule),” he added.
“Anyway, Maharashtra is no safer place and we have several Australians in the line up, including the support staff, whose safety has been threatened,” Shankar reasoned.
Maharashtra’s right wing group Shiv Sena have threatened dire consequences if Australian players participate in the league, following the racist attacks on Indians Down Under.
Shankar said that Chargers will not hesitate to sue the IPL and also skip the meet if their demands are not met.
