The controversy was over the apparent failure on the part of Boise State’s Kyle Brotzman, who missed two field goals. One of them was a 26-yard field goal with 2 seconds left in regulation, that could have saved Boise State from getting defeated, while the other one was a 29 yards out in overtime.

The match ended in favor of Nevada with a 34-31 overtime victory. The loss took away the chances of a more lucrative bowl game for the Boise State Broncos. Kyle Brotzman, apparently had to go through a lot of demoralization and turbulences after the loss, as he was held responsible or the humiliating defeat. A Boise Police has reported that the player received a harassing phone call from a stranger, who held him responsible for the defeat. The player seemed quite disturbed about the questions that were raised about his performance. The war of words and the debate can be called a virtual one, as the official website of the Broncos State football team and other social networking sites were filled with comments, that either comforted Kyle Brotzman or condemned him.

About 65 Facebook pages were dedicated for the virtual debate that is still heating up in the Internet. More than 5,000 people clicked the “like” button under the statement “The Bronco Nation Loves Kyle Brotzman”. The online responders are now divided into two camps. One of them says, that he lost the match single handedly and dissolved the last hope of Broncos State to get the national championship. While the other camp is under the impression that he cannot be blamed and they still like him. Hundreds of supportive messages had been posted, one of which reads “Thanks, Kyle, for all you’ve done for the Broncos”.
