Dean Smith shows promising performanceApril 7th, 2009 - 10:13 pm ICT by GD
The rising star of British Racing Drivers’ Club, Dean Smith, maintained his wonderful form in the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup championship at Brands Hatch in Kent. He secured the fourth position in the 2nd round of the campaign. Dean is presently the fourth in the overall championship standings with only the highly experienced trio of Michael Caine, Tim Harvey and Tim Bridgman running ahead of him.
Although it is yet to be seen whether Dean maintain his performance in the prestigious category for the remaining part of the 2009 season, his performances in the weekend was truly spectacular — more so due to the fact that his first outing in the number 5 Porsche 911 GT3 racer only came at the practice on Friday.
Starting today’s race, which was televised live on ITV4, the 21-year-old made a good start from the line and matched up to the top three as he attempted to pressurize Caine. Before Dean could properly get into his pace, the Safety Car ventured onto the tracks at the beginning of the third lap and allowed the smooth recovery of Tom Bradshaw’s trapped car at McLaren. On the 10th lap the re-start finally came but Dean wasn’t as comfortable with his car’s set-up as he was initially during the first round on Saturday, and finally he did come under pressure from Jake Roszenweig.
When asked to comment on the experience Dean said, “It’s been a great weekend for us, to be fourth in the championship on our first proper weekend is really good”.
