New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) The Delhi and District Cricket Association has announced a cash award of Rs.25 lakh to India opener Virender Sehwag a day after the Delhi blaster scored the highest individual score in One-Day Internationals (ODI).
Sehwag’s incredible knock of 219 off 149 balls in the fourth ODI against the West Indies at Indore Thursday makes him the second batsman to cross the 200-run barrier in ODIs after his idol and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
“The Delhi and District Cricket Association has decided to give Rs.25 lakh award to Virender Sehwag as a mark of respect and honour for making world record in ODIs,” DDCA general secretary Sneh Bansal said in a release Friday.
The “Nawab of Najafgarh”, as Sehwag is popularly called, is also the lone batsman in the world who can boast of twice scoring triple centuries in Tests and a double in ODIs.
