Daytona, Feb 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Matt Kenseth survived the rain and the fire to win the biggest race on the schedule of NASCAR. The Daytona 500 2012 race had everything from delays to drama and will definitely go down as one of the most eventful in recent history.

First, there was a 30-hour delay because of the rain. When the organizers thought it was all cleared and the race was definitely on course, another disaster struck. This time, it was a fire which caused the race to be delayed 2 hours further.

With the win, Kenseth had picked the coveted race title twice. It was a grand finish and Kenseth had to edge past Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the second position. Finish second came as a challenge to Earnhardt Jr. who had to edge past teammate Greg Biffle at the finish line.

After the race, Kenseth described the finish saying that, “They just couldn’t get attached, and I could get away from them. It just came down to whoever was in the front, and he had a really fast car as well.”

Earnhardt Jr. admitted that when it became apparent that they could not get Kenseth, he decided to edge past his teammate and get the second position.
