Championship Ring 2010Oct 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Los Angeles Lakers were presented with their championship rings in the pregame ceremony on Tuesday by the NBA commissioner David Stern. Also present on court was the daughter of the team owner and Lakers official Jeanie Buss. The players came one by one after they introduced each other and the first one to collect the ring was coach Phil Jackson. Also present at the venue was pop sensation Justin Bieber who was allowed to wear and pose with Phil Jackson’s ring by Jeanie Buss for a while before she handed it back to her boyfriend.

The design of the coveted ring has become a rage on the web with many websites offering detailed photos of the diamond encrusted beauty. The ring features two trophies which signify the back to back wins for the team. It also has 16 oversized diamonds that signify the 16 championships that the side has won in the history of NBA. At the back of the ring is a piece of the original ball that was used in Game 7 of the NBA finals that the Los Angeles Lakers won against the Boston Celtics this year.

There is also a 3D sculpture of the players’ faces at the side of their respective rings. David Stern also revealed in a pregame interview to the media that the technical fouls are here to stay and he wanted the players to put up their best behavior in the season ahead. The season opener got off to a great start for the Los Angeles Lakers fans as they grounded the Houston Rockets in a nail biting encounter whose final score read 112-110 in Los Angeles Lakers’ favor.
