Nashville, Sep 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former Patriots footballer David Givens, who has not played football since November 2006, due to medical reasons is suing the Tennessee Titans for $25 million, claiming that they purposely withheld his medical information from him and encouraged him to play despite a severe knee condition that could not withstand the serious pro football competition.

According to the suit, which was reported yesterday by the Nashville Tennessean, an independent surgeon Dr. Tomas Byrd, examined the wide receiver Givens in March 2006, before he signed up a five-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. The surgeon, determined that Givens might eventually need serious knee surgery, and that he would have trouble playing for the whole season because of a serious defect on the medial femoral condyle, where the upper leg bone connects to the joint in the knee.

The thirty-nine year old David Givens suffered a catastrophic knee injury after playing only five games for the Tennessee Titans. The sue-suit claims that he became aware of Byrd’s 2006 findings only after reviewing his own medical file earlier this year.

David Lamar Givens who was born on August 16, 1980 in Youngstown, Ohio was an American football wide receiver and is currently a free agent. His first season with the Titans ended very early in week 10, after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament. On February 27, 2008 after two injury-filled football seasons, he was finally released from the Titans.
