david Mar 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) David Beckham, the British soccer star who tore his Achilles tendon in the closing minutes of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday, is back on his feet, with the aide of crutches. He was on his second loan to the Italian Club from the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

The thirty four year old has his wife Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) by his side as he recuperates at a private clinic in Finland. He is set to stay at the clinic until Wednesday, according to reports that his surgeon told the Associated Press. The surgeon said that Beckham “feels fine and happy.” “He does not have much pain and has started walking today and gradually done it more and more,” Dr. Sakari Orava said.

Orava stated the the Achilles tendon was torn, and that this type of injury rules out his playing in the World Cup, which starts June 11 in South Africa. “It is hard to tell, but in general I can say that after an Achilles’ tendon tear, a total rupture, people usually are back in sports within half a year,” Orava said.

Beckham’s rehabilitation will start immediately, although he cannot put any weight of the foot for two weeks, and cannot undergo physical therapy in a pool until six weeks from the surgery.

The British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown wished Beckham a speedy recovery in a get well message and praised his role as a soccer ambassador. Simon Lewis, who is a spokesperson for the Prime Minister, told of Brown’s message to Beckham, “He emphasized what a tremendous ambassador Mr. Beckham is for English soccer and wishes him well in his recovery, as I think the whole nation does.”
