Dario Franchitti Wins Indy 500 For Second Time

Dario FranchittiIndianapolis, May 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 94th Indianapolis 500 title on Sunday went to Dario Franchitti, of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dario Franchitti went on to win the title for the second time. He was left with enough fuel to outduel England’s Dan Wheldon and his partner Alex Lloyd. Dario Franchitti had a dramatic win as starting third he was left with just enough fuel to cross the finishing line before Dan Wheldon. He finished the race under caution.

Dario Franchitti the winner of the 2007 Indianapolis 500, on Sunday was racing for Target Chip Gannassi Racing and dominated the track from the beginning. However before the crash, Dan Wheldon was close enough to overtake the car of Dario Franchitti, who slowed down a little to save fuel. It seems that it helped as the race officials after the crash announced a caution which helped Dario Franchitti to finish the race with just 0.35 liters of fuel in his car’s tank.

An elated Dario Franchitti after following the traditional milk drinking ceremony that marks the victory of the racer said “This tastes just as good the second time”. He also added that “Up until 10 laps to go” he was relaxed as he was leading however “all the hell broke loose” when the matter of fuel saving came into play. He also added that “it feels great” to win the title for a second time. During the Sunday race, Dario Franchitti led the race on 155 laps of the total 200. The win of Dario Franchitti, made Chip Gannassi the first owner that has won both the NASCAR’s Daytona 500 race and the Indy 500 race in the same year.
