Danes snatch rowing gold from Britain
August 4th, 2012 - 7:05 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Aug 4 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Danish rowers Mads Rasumessen and Rasmus Quist exacted revenge on Britain to win gold in the men’s lightweight double sculls Saturday.
Rasumessen and Quist overtook Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter in the final 100 metres to snatch the gold in six minutes, 37.17 seconds.
The Britons came in just six hundredths of a second behind.
New Zealand pair Storm Uru and Peter Taylor won the bronze in 6:40.86.
The race was restarted after the seat of British oarsman Zac Purchase broke inside the first 100 metres.
It was Britain’s third rowing medal of the day after Katherine Copeland and Sophie Hosking took gold in the women’s double sculls, and Team GB held off a strong challenge from the Australians for gold in the men’s four.
