Danes excel in practice at Volvo Regatta

- Chennai, Nov 1 (IANS) Denmark’s Kristian and Mathias finished on top in the 29er Class in the practice races of the Volvo Indian International Regatta here Sunday off the Chennai Port.
The Indian teams of Hussain and Nishanth, and Varan and Keshub could not complete the race due to rig failure, according to a press release from the organisers.
Xerxes and Krishna (RBYC, Mumbai) were second while Shweta and Aishwarya from the host club finished third, in the practice race.
The Optimist fleet started off first with the favourites from TNSA having a distinct advantage in their home waters. The Singapore team comprising young sailors displayed great skills in order to get themselves ready for competitive racing from Monday.
Practice Race Results:
Optimist: 1. Upamanyu Dutta - RBYC, 2. Chintan - INWC - Mumbai, 3. Praveen Prabhakar - TNSA.
Optimist Girls: 1. Ekta Yadav - INWTC Mumbai.
29er category: 1. Kristian and Mathais (Denmark), 2. Xerxes and Krish (Ind) and Shweta and Aishwarya (Ind).
