Kolkata, Jan 29 (IANS) Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Jagmohan Dalmiya Saturday called on Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and discussed with him the Eden Gardens fiasco.Dalmiya held a closed-door meeting with Mukherjee for about 25 minutes.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) struck off Eden Gardens as the venue of the important India-England match following an adverse report from its inspection team that visited Kolkata and four other venues earlier this week to review their readiness for the cricket World Cup being hosted jointly by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from Feb 19 to April 2.
Meanwhile, CAB approached state public works department (PWD) to send its engineers for the completion of the work at the Eden Gardens.
PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami said: “PWD engineers have already started the work. We will all do everything to complete the work at Eden before Feb 7.”
Meanwhile, Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharjee Saturday requested Mukherjee too look into the matter so that Eden Gardens gets back the India-England Feb 27 day-night match as per the schedule.
“I want Eden Garden to get back its match. I requested Pranabda to look into the matter keeping in mind the emotions of the cricket-loving people of Bengal,” Bhattacharjee told IANS.
