Cyclist killed, 12 kids hurt as school bus overturns
October 5th, 2010 - 8:27 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 5 (IANS) A cyclist was killed and at least 12 students of a private school travelling in a bus were injured when their vehicle overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district Tuesday, police said.
The accident took place late afternoon in Jhala town, some 110 km from Lucknow, when the speeding bus of Shree Sadashiv Shiksha Niketan overturned after the driver applied the brake to avoid collision with another vehicle.
A hunt has been launched to nab the bus driver who escaped after the accident, police said.
While the students inside the bus received injuries, a cyclist on the road was killed, police said.
“All the injured students, aged 8-12, are being treated at a hospital, where the condition of six is stated to be critical,” police Inspector R.P. Mishra told reporters in Hardoi.
