CWG mascot Shera, Samresh Jung visit Delhi school
September 7th, 2010 - 5:33 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Sep 7 (ANI): The mascot for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Shera, visited the Vasant Valley School here on Tuesday along with Indian shooter Samresh Jung to promote the upcoming mega event among the children.
Jung, who has won two gold medals for India in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, expressed his happiness with the visit.
“I am very happy to see so many kids and they were very happy to see Shera. It’s very important because these are the guys who will grow up and remember the Games. And you never know, there might be another champion in them,” said Jung.
Jung said that India is a strong contender in the sport of shooting.
“India is a very strong contender in shooting and there are other teams also like teams from England, Australia, New Zealand Singapore, and there are other countries. We really don’t need strong teams, we need just one strong contender and this competition is won,” he added.
The children were very excited to see the mascot and they painted many pictures representing the Games.
The mascot began its promotional journey from Delhi University’s Miranda House College on September 1.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games, which kicks off on October 3, is India’s biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games.
India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states. (ANI)
