CWG Federation General Assembly commends OC’s efforts ahead of opening ceremony
October 2nd, 2010 - 8:54 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Oct.2 (ANI): Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly on Saturday unanimously passed a resolution commending the efforts of Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi’s Organising Committee (OC) to get things ready for the celebrations of the opening ceremony on Sunday.
CGF President Mike Fennell moved a resolution, “praising the Organising Committee” for bringing things under control before the arrival of the athletes and “brining the Games back to the highest degree of excellence.”
The resolution was passed unanimously and greeted with applause.
The Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) of the 71 nations and territories taking part in Delhi 2010, especially appreciated the efforts in readying the Games Village for use by the 6800 athletes and team officials.
On this occasion Fennell said that this would be the largest Games in the history of the Commonwealth Games, surpassing the participation in Melbourne 2006 by over one thousand.
The CGAs noted that that the athletes were enjoying the facilities in the Village and stated that they were highly satisfied with the catering at the Games Village and the facilities for training.
They also noted that most of the things, including technology, are in place for the smooth and successful conduct of the Games.
Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi, on this occasion, said that he was thankful to the CGF and the CGAs for their unstinted support.
“The fact that we will have the participation of 6800 athletes and team officials from all 71 nations and territories indicates the love they have for India,” he said. “We are on course to deliver the Games successfully and smoothly,” said Kalmadi.
Meanwhile, the organising committee made a presentation focussing on the technical conduct of the Games, venue operations, village operations, sports equipment, international technical officials and celebrations in the city.
It was well-received by the members of the General Assembly. (ANI)
