Dec. 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sunday’s game of the Indianapolis Colts against the New York Jets saw the NFL debut of the rookie Curtis Painter. It was not certain from the beginning whether he would be playing in the game or not, as he was not on the active roster. He was informed around halftime by the coaches of the team that the starters may go in for some more series, and that in such a case he would be getting a chance to play in the game. However, the coaches had also made ti clear that the whole matter was rather uncertain.
Although enthusiastic about is first stint in the NFL, Curtis Painter’s performance did not match up expectations. He managed to make only 4 of the total of 11 passes. The New York Jets also managed to sack him two times. In fact, one of the sacks proved fortuitous for the Jets. When Calvin Pace of the New York Jets sacked him from behind, Curtis Painter fumbled, as a result of which the Jets managed to score a touchdown.
Curtis Painter commented later on that he was aware that the fact that he was sent into the game to relieve Peyton Manning. However, he also commented that he is not worried about the matter at present, as, admittedly, he has more to worry about his performance and the fact that the Indianapolis Colts have lost to the New York Jets. However, he is somewhat optimistic, and admits that as his first performance, this was a good experience. On the other hand, he admits that it was a huge pressure to go in the game that was so close at halftime.
