Crowe ‘privileged to assist’ struggling New Zealand team get bearings back
October 27th, 2010 - 1:45 pm ICT by ANIAuckland, Oct 27(ANI): Former New Zealand skipper Martin Crowe has said that he is willing to help the cricket committee being set up to monitor the struggling Black Caps.
The committee, which will be chaired by New Zealand Cricket board member Stephen Boock, has come to light following New Zealand’s recent disastrous 4-0 series loss to Bangladesh.
About three independent personalities will be co-opted with Crowe’s name mentioned as a possibility with options being considered over the next week or so.
“I’m happy and privileged to assist in any capacity asked of me,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Crowe, as saying.
Crowe further said that he has already started a programme with some of New Zealand’s most promising players, including Kane Williamson, B.J. Watling and Daniel Flynn.
“They need time as is normal for batters with limited first-class play. It took me 30 first-class games to get a true belief for what I could repeat consistently. These guys need more games before expectations can go up,” Crowe said.
“The challenge is they are asked to get this experience now at the very top level. I struggled too at this stage and was helped by seasoned pros like John Wright, Bruce Edgar, John Reid, Geoff Howarth and Jeremy Coney. The hope is that our senior men of today can carry the day while these rookies come up to speed,” he added. (ANI)
