Cristiano Ronaldo sets new scoring record in Spanish La Liga
May 22nd, 2011 - 2:26 pm ICT by IANSMadrid, May 22 (IANS) Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new record for the most number of goals scored in a Spanish La Liga season with 39, Xinhua reported.
The Portuguese international, who is the most expensive player in the world, scored his 39th league goal after just three minutes of Real Madrid’s home match against Almeria Saturday.
Ronaldo beat the previous record of 38 goals held by Athletic Club Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra from the 1950-51 season and former Real Madrid forward Hugo Sanchez from the 1988-89 campaign.
Ronaldo has made 34 appearances this season, while Zarra set his record with 30 games in a season.
