Cricket South Africa begins search for new Proteas head coach
December 23rd, 2010 - 6:06 pm ICT by ANIJohannesburg, Dec. 23 (ANI): Cricket South Africa on Thursday launched the process to appoint the next head coach of the Proteas.
The successful candidate will replace interim coach Corrie van Zyl who will return to his permanent post as head coach at CSA’s High Performance Centre at the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup.
A News24.com web site report said that the appointment will be for a two-year period during a busy time for the Proteas and will include the 2012 edition of the ICC World Twenty20 to be held in Sri Lanka, the inaugural World Test Championship as well as home and away series against Australia and a full tour to England.
Gerald Majola, CSA CEO, commented: “CSA is casting its net far and wide to find the right person to replace caretaker Proteas’ coach Corrie van Zyl and take the team to even higher levels of performance.
“We thank and applaud Corrie for stepping into the breach at such short notice after the resignation by Mickey Arthur as national coach last season.
“Corrie will be returning to his full-time post as CSA’s High Performance manager after next year’s ICC World Cup starting in February. His ability to bring out the best in top and emerging cricketers is well known and we look forward to him continuing in this role.”
“CSA has appointed the panel to select the new national coach. The panel will be headed by myself as CSA CEO and will comprise Corrie van Zyl (High Performance manager), Andrew Hudson (selection convener), Andrew O’Connor (chair cricket committee) and Boeta Dippenaar (SA Cricketers’ Association representative).
Bilala Khanye (CSA’s human relations consultant) will oversee the appointment process. (ANI)
