Cricket Australia should look overseas for future coaches: Fraser
January 12th, 2011 - 6:54 pm ICT by ANISydney, Jan 12 (ANI): Former England pacer Angus Fraser has said that Australia should consider looking overseas for future coaches, and added that coach Tim Nielsen needed results to preserve his job.
Australians derided England for their habit of poaching coaching and playing talent from abroad, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Head coach Andy Flower and fielding coach Richard Halsall are both from Zimbabwe while bowling guru David Saker is Australian and spin mentor Mushtaq Ahmed is from Pakistan.
The only member of Australia’s back-room staff from outside the country is fielding coach Mike Young, who is an American.
“Maybe we live in a more cosmopolitan, multicultural place so therefore we get used to people from other countries working, playing here,” Fraser said.
“I think it’s healthy. When you’re winning you think there’s nothing wrong so you let it roll but when you’re losing you look at yourself closely,” he said.
“I don’t think there’s any harm in looking at everything, breaking it down and see whether it’s working and a lot of the time you might say we’re not going to change that, we believe what we’re doing. It’s about getting the best man for the job a lot of the time,” he said.
Fraser said Nielsen, who succeeded John Buchanan after the 2007 World Cup, had been given plenty of time to show his worth. (ANI)
