CP Joshi elected new RCA President
December 7th, 2009 - 6:31 pm ICT by ANIJaipur, Dec 7 (ANI): Union Rural Development Minister and President of Rajasthan Congress CP Joshi becomes the new President of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) by defeating his rival IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi by six votes in the RCA elections held here today.
Earlier, a brawl took place mid-way between the supporters of the two high-profile candidates CP Joshi and Lalit Modi.
A large number of rowdy supporters gathered both inside and outside the venue of the elections. But despite their scuffles, the voting continued undisturbed.
IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi had lost the last RCA elections in March this year, but internal strife and factionalism in the association led to fresh elections being held today.
The IPL Commissioner declined to accept that his supporters were involved in the clash and described the incident as a shameful one.
Shiv Charan Mali, a known loyalist of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had also filed his nominations for the RCA elections. (ANI)
