Corruption allegations against CWG organizers should be probed: Fennell
August 19th, 2010 - 11:17 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Aug.19 (ANI): Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell said on Thursday that all allegations of corruption against the Commonwealth Games organisers should be probed.
Fennell said this today in a news conference, as he wrapped up a two-day inspection of the venues and identified some areas of concern which he felt needed to be addressed immediately.
He told reporters today that the CGF has left it on the Indian authorities to investigate the charges of financial irregularities that have rocked the Organising Committee (OC).
Fennell, however, expressed his ‘happiness’ with the overall preparations but wanted the organisers to speed up work on finer details like landscaping and cleaning.
“The intention and objective of this visit was to take a further look at the venues. There has been reporting of corruption. It has been of great concern for the CGF,” said Fennell
“From the CGF’s point of view, we have not been associated with any corruption anywhere and we feel it needs to be thoroughly investigated by the Indian authorities. We have encouraged all government authorities to conduct inquiry,” he said. (ANI)
