Confident Bushrangers look to seal Super Eight place
October 12th, 2009 - 10:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 12 (IANS) A confident Victoria Bushrangers will look to assuring their place among the Super Eight teams when they take on Wayamba Eleven in the Champions League Twenty20 cricket at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium here Tuesday.
Both teams have had a taste of low and slow track here. But while Bushrangers are upbeat after defeating favourites Delhi Daredevils, Wayamba were scuppered in their opening match by Daredevils Sunday night.
Delhi’s win has put them and Bushrangers almost through to the next stage, unless the Sri Lankans inflict a massive defeat on the Bushrangers.
Victoria said they will field their strongest side against the Sri Lankan outfit.
“At this stage we’ll just play our best side and try to give them some momentum going in to, hopefully, other matches,” Victoria coach Greg Shipperd said.
“I still think we’ve got greater expectations than just one win this tournament. We would be very disappointed not to move through to the next round. One win is certainly not good enough for us.”
Meanwhile, in the other encounter of the Champions League, Sussex Sharks and Diamond Eagles of South Africa will battle it out for survival — both teams having lost their opening matches.
Sharks Sunday bit the dust against New South Wales, who also clipped the Eagles’ wings last week. Needless to say, the loser will have to make an exit from Group B and the competition.
Sussex will be hoping that their captain Michael Yardley, who could not take the field Sunday due to illness, recovers in time. Stand-in-captain Ed Joyce has indicated that there might be some changes in the team.
