gold-cup On Sunday, at the 2009 Gold Cup finals, Mexico dominated the scenario completely from start to finish.Their ‘battle plan’ left no room for the US team to put up any show, which mostly left the U.S. team under-performing hugely by their own set standards. The win was made momentous to the team of Mexico mostly because this was the first time that they have been able to defeat USA in a long drawn period that had stretched for almost a decade.

The Giants Stadium in New Jersey was thronging with overwhelming crowd who had turned up to watch the “epic” final match between the two teams. The US were led to a humiliating finish on Sunday’s match when they went down 5-0 in the end. The very much ‘in form’ players of the Mexico side like the 20 year old forward Giovani dos Santos and Carlos Vela conveyed a lot to the overall win of their team. These two names were flashing all across the stadium on Sunday when they mostly led to the scoring or in the helping of the first of the four goals of the match.

It was from the second half onwards that the field picked up pace, almost immediately when Vela came on to the field to open the second half. It was then that Mexico had started to display more speed and their urgency at clinching the win.

The first goal of the match and for Mexico was set off when the team was awarded a penalty, which Gerardo Torrado (captain) successfully put in to the net. There on started the winning streak for Mexico.
