Cologne, Bremen celebrate goal festival at Bundesliga

Berlin, Dec 11 (IANS) Bottom team Augsburg shocked third positioned Monchengladbach 1-0, Cologne humiliated Freiburg 4-0 and Bremen crushed Wolfsburg 4-1 in the Bundesliga football.

Last positioned Augsburg surprised Monchengladbach Saturday in a contested match in front of a sold-out home crowd following the decider by midfielder Jan Ingwer Callsen Bracker.

Unlucky Monchengladbach was unable to convert their chances within the first half, Xinhua reported.

In the 51st minute, Augsburg was rewarded for their efforts when midfielder Jan Ingwer Callsen Bracker slotted a deflected free kick right footed to stun the guests.

Monchengladbach stayed dazed and unable to fight back to slip from third to fourth position with 30 points whilst Augsburg climbed from last position to 17th position with 14 points.

Werder Bremen taught Wolfsburg a lesson at Weser stadium to send the “Wolves” home with a hammering 4-1 loss.

Bremen defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he poked home at goal area following a prolonged free kick.

Just before interval Bremen doubled the lead through their top striker Claudio Pizzaro, who had all time and space to mark the 2-0 lead from central position against harmless “Wolves”.

Ten minutes into second half Bremen scored against the trend of the second half thanks to striker Markus Rosenberg, who utilised a pass into path to triple the lead.

Bremen retracted but was still able to score against a harmless Wolfsburg defence as unmarked joker striker Marko Arnautovic sealed the deal with the 4-0 lead.

Wolfsburg was only able to score the consolation goal at a one sided affair courtesy defender Marcel Schaefer who scored with a long range shot.

Thus Wolfsburg slips from 13th to 14th position with 17 points whilst Bremen stays on fifth with 29 points.

At the other matches Mainz had to share points with Hamburg after goal less 90 minutes. Hamburg slips from 11th to 12th position with 18 points while Mainz climbs from 14th to 13th position with 17 points.

Also Hannover and Leverkusen shared points after a goalless draw at AWD Area. Hannover stays on eighth position with 22 points whereas Leverkusen remains on sixth position with 26 points.

Hoffenheim defeated Nuremberg 2-0 owing a brace by striker Vedad Ibisevic. Both sides finished the match with ten men due to two straight red cards.

Cologne celebrated a goal festival against Freiburg as Cologne striker Lukas Podolski and midfielder Christian Clemens scored two goals each to put Freiburg on last position of the standings with 13 points out of 16 matches. Cologne jumps from 12th to 10th position on 20 points.
