Collingwood to undergo knee surgery
March 23rd, 2011 - 9:51 pm ICT by IANSLondon, March 23 (IANS) England all-rounder Paul Collingwood will undergo knee surgery after the 2011 World Cup.
Collingwood has had an ordinary tournament so far with only 61 runs and a wicket to his name in the four of the six league matches he has played. He had scans on both knees during the group matches but is likely to be available for selection for the quarterfinal against Sri Lanka in Colombo Saturday.
“Paul felt some discomfort in his left knee during the group stages of the World Cup, and a precautionary scan ahead of England’s match against South Africa showed no significant damage,” chief medical officer Nick Peirce said in an English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) release.
“However, further assessment suggests a loose piece of cartilage floating in his knee that will require surgical removal. We’ll be able to establish a definitive rehabilitation timescale following surgery but we expect Paul to make a full recovery in due course.”
Collingwood retired from Tests following his poor show in England’s historic Ashes triumph in Australia.
