Collingwood persuaded to captain England in World 20-20April 27th, 2009 - 4:39 pm ICT by ANI
London, Apr.27 (ANI): All rounder Paul Collingwood has been persuaded to captain England in this summer’s World Twenty20.
His appointment, which will be confirmed on Friday, shows England’s confused plight in the shortest form of the game, reports The Sun.Initially, he was adamant he did not want to lead his country again after his form plummeted during his year as one-day skipper.
He quit last August on the same day as Michael Vaughan stood down as Test captain.
The selectors, however, have decided Collingwood is the most plausible candidate for the World Twenty20 after Andrew Strauss withdrew because he does not think his batting is explosive enough. He agreed to take over the reins after a call from national selector Geoff Miller.
The Durham all-rounder, 32, did not enjoy his time as England one-day skipper and was criticized for allowing a run-out at The Oval last year when New Zealand’s Grant Elliott collided with Ryan Sidebottom. (ANI)
