Collingwood eyes big innings in South Australia match to secure place for Gabba Test
November 11th, 2010 - 1:52 pm ICT by ANILondon, Nov 11 (ANI): England batsman Paul Collingwood, who knows his place in the team could come under threat again, wants to play another big innings in the South Australia match, which would ease his concerns.
Collingwood’s last five Test inning scores have been 1, 28, 5, 3 and 0, and for the first time since his career-saving century against South Africa at Edgbaston in 2008, his place is under threat.
In the Second Test here four years ago, Collingwood scored a brilliant 206 as England made 551-6 declared.
“I have really mixed emotions when I look back at that Test. It was unbelievable to stand out in the middle again now and have the guys asking where I hit the boundary to reach my 200,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
“They were great feelings but it was such a shame we didn’t go on to draw or win after being in control. The defeat took the guts out of us and we were blown away after going 2-0 down,” Collingwood said.
“That Australian team had such a big aura about them if they sniffed a chance. They just bulldozed us,” he said.
Collingwood, who is almost certain to feature in the First Test at Brisbane, said: “My form could be better, but I believe I can get myself back into form come the First Test. You’re only ever one innings away. It’s funny, I remember feeling in horrible nick in the warm-up in Sydney four years ago.” (ANI)
