College offers World Cup final treat
April 1st, 2011 - 4:23 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, April 1 (IANS) In a “visual treat” for its students, a college here Friday announced that students can now capture the much-awaited India-Sri Lanka World Cup final action on the big screen inside the college premises itself.
The St. Joseph Inter College has decided to show the cricket match live to its 1,500-odd students along with teaching and non-teaching staff of the institute.
“Call it a visual treat from our side for the students and other staffers of the educational institute,” St. Joseph Inter College manager Anil Agarwal told IANS.
“Students from both our branches (Rajajipuram and Thakurganj) have been invited to enjoy the match on the big screen. All the arrangements have been made at the Rajajipuram branch,” Agarwal said.
According to college officials, refreshments would be provided to the students and college staffers who watch the match.
“The scene on the college premises Saturday would definitely be electrifying. While the first half of the match would be screened inside the hall of the college, the other half would be shown on the big screen that has been put up in the ground,” Agarwal said.
The college authorities have also made arrangements for celebrations in case Team India wins.
“We have stocks of crackers and colours ready for the celebrations. If we win the match, I would only say you would witness Holi and Diwali simultaneously on our premises,” Agarwal said.
The college classes would be over by 11 a.m.
“All this has been done in the wake of the final match. As of now, we have decided to relieve the students by 11 a.m. We may also declare a holiday in both of our branches. A final decision will be taken in this regard by late evening,” Agarwal said.
Students too are excited about the college authorities’ decision.
“Earlier, we had plans to bunk the classes, but now we would love coming to college to catch the match on the big screen,” Gaurav Seth, a Class 12 student, told reporters.
Said Kshitij Singh, a student of Class 11: “The decision taken by our college authorities is heartening. We all are making plans to enjoy the World Cup final with our teachers and friends.”
