Cody Hawkins Plays Rough For Colorado Buffaloes

187px-cody_hawkins_coloradoIn the fourth quarter of the Friday match, besides Colorado Buffaloes losing to Toledo 54-38, Cody Hawkins ( son of coach Dan Hawkins) could hardly enthuse his father or his team, even though he injured himself during his earnest attempts to save face from the impending defeat. Toledo amassed 624 yards as the Buffs looked on in disbelief.

QB Aaron Opelt, a senior player and opponent of Hawkins threw 423 yards and administered some great offense schemes. To be facing such players with credits of having contested 90 games, Cody Hawkins’ posing as savior on his team was ridiculously belittled. Opelt scored a 70 yard run TD pass in the opening quarter, and told sources later that even he could not believe that he “could still run like that”. Even though the rush offense did not work out for Toledo, they showed brilliant team work and determined schemes to get to the ultimate victory.

The Buffs showed a languor on the field right from the beginning of the game. The Buffs offensive and defensive line both got seriously challenged by the Colorado State Rams last week, where they had surrendered 23-17 on Sunday. This is the 2nd loss that Buffs have seen within 5 days.

When asked to introspect over the reason of the loss Cody sighed and confessed saying,”Too many big plays for sure.”

This loss naturally puts Dan Hawkins under scrutiny, specifically in letting Cody start as QB, but receiver Scotty McKnight and many others still hold their trust on their coach. Cody has played for the Boise State, under the patronage of his father who was coach there too, before he came over to Colorado.
