Coca Cola drops Rooney from their new ad campaign
October 4th, 2010 - 12:56 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattOct 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Coca Cola has dropped English striker Wayne Rooney from its current advert campaign.
Bosses of the company in America reportedly branded the soccer star “disgusting” after it emerged that Rooney has cheated on his wife Coleen. Recent media reports suggest that the English star slept with a prostitute, when his wife was pregnant with their only child.
As a result of the scandal, plans to place the face of Rooney on millions of cans of Coca Cola have been dropped. The company planned to place the face of Rooney on millions of cans and bottles of the company’s Coke Zero product in a campaign that would have run until next year.
Coca Cola pays the 24-year-old Manchester United striker an astonishing 600,000 pounds every year from their sponsorship package. Rooney might lose his contract with Coca Cola altogether if the reports are true that some bosses of the company in America do not want the company’s image to be associated with the player’s recent private life revelations.
However it seems the star might hold on to his contract, if the Coca Cola executives in London are able to convince the top bosses at the company.
