Apr 02 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The nose tackle for the Cleveland Browns, Shaun Rogers was arrested on Thursday after a loaded gun was found in his luggage. The arrest took place at Hopkins International Airport. He was stopped at a security checkpoint on Concourse C when the gun was spotted by officials. It was a loaded 45 caliber pistol, located in his bag, according to the police.

Rogers was arrested at 12:15, and booked for carrying a concealed weapon, which is a third degree felony. He offered no resistance to the arrest. He had been at the Cleveland Browns suburban training facility during a voluntary off season program. As of Thursday night, the player was still being held in the city jail, according to the Cleveland Police Department’s Sgt. Sammy Morris. No charges have been filed at this time, but Rogers could face federal fines for carrying the weapon.

It is not clear why the 31 year old was carrying the gun, or what he told the police about why he had it. Nor is it known whether or not he had a permit, or was traveling alone. He lives in Houston when he is not playing, or training. The president of the team, Mike Holmgren gave a statement which let the press know that they are aware of the arrest. “We will continue to gather additional information, and until the legal process has taken its course, we will reserve any further comment,” the statement said. If it is determined that Rogers has violated the NFL’s player conduct policy, he could face penalties there as well.
