Clean sweep by Gokul Krishna in Junior Cup motorace

Chennai, Dec 20 (IANS) The fourth JK Tyre Junior Cup motorace commenced here Saturday with local challenger Gokul Krishna winning all the three outings in the first round.The two-round series that doubles up as an entry-level event for Formula racing, is exclusively meant for those who have not won any race in the past two years and also beginners. The series winner gets a fully sponsored drive in the 2009 JK Tyre National Racing championship scheduled to commence in February.

In all, 15 competitors from across the country took part in Saturday’s races that Krishna won starting second on the grid.

The enthusiasm among the first-timers was boiled over at the start of the first race that was reduced to seven laps. The competitors began racing in the formation lap itself. The cars were then red-flagged and the race was restarted, but reduced to seven laps from the scheduled eight.

Race 1 (7 laps): 1. Gokul Krishna (8mins, 47:391secs); 2. K. Prashanth (08:53:130); 3. Chetan (09:01:115). Race 2 (8 laps): 1. Gokul Krishna (10:20;480); 2. K.Prashanth (10:21:093); 3. B.Paragjyothi (10:30:955). Race 3 (8 laps): 1. Gokul Krishna (10:07:886); 2. K.Prashanth (10:12:066); 3. B.Paragjyothi (10:12:402)
