Clean sweep by Churchill Brothers in I-League awards

Gurgaon, April 26 (IANS) Champion club Churchill Brothers made a clean sweep of the I-League awards here Sunday.
Though they lost the season ending one-off Super Cup to Federation Cup winners Mohun Bagan 2-1 at the Devilal Sports Complex, that didn’t stop the I-league winners to sweep the awards.

Churchill’s star striker Odafe Onyeka Okolie of Nigeria had the highest score with 26 goals and also won the best forward and the best player’s award with 60 points each.

Odafe’s compatriot and team mate Ogba Kalu was adjudged the best midfielder with 37 points while Arindam Bhattacharya was the best goalkeeper with 40.

Gouramangi Singh got the best defender’s award, Jarnail Singh Trophy, which was with Dempo’s Mahesh Gawli for the last three years.

Churchill’s Serbian coach Zoran Djordjevic was the best coach of the I-League and also earned the distinction to become the first overseas coach to win the national league.

JCT, which finished 10th in the 12-team I-League, managed the fair play trophy.
