Clark’s aiming for a true recall
July 27th, 2009 - 5:26 pm ICT by ANINorthamptonshire (UK), July 27 (ANI): Australian fast bowler Stuart Clark believes that he can intimidate England and is confident about a Test recall after being his side’s best bowler during the second day of a three-day tour match against Northamptonshire yesterday.
While Peter Siddle finished with the most wickets, 3-53 from 9.3 overs, Clark bowled with great control and consistent movement to take 2-45 from 14 overs before the county declared at 7-226.
“I get the ball to bounce a little bit more, being a little bit taller. That’s probably my biggest weapon. If you can get the ball to bounce, as we saw with Freddie (Flintoff in the second Test) at Lord’s, you can be a handful,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Clark, as saying.
“It’s always nice to get a few wickets,” he said after play.
“I probably bowled better in Worcester (during a tour match before the first Test) after playing two games in a row but this wicket was a little bit more conducive. Sometimes your results get based on how many wickets you get and whether you bowled well or not is irrelevant,” he added.
Clark, 33, the hero of the 2006-07 Ashes in Australia with 26 wickets at an average of just 17 apiece, admitted he was disappointed and surprised to be left out of the first two Tests.
Not having played Test cricket since November because of an elbow operation, the selectors went with the young pacemen who won Australia the series in South Africa - Mitchell Johnson, Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus.
However Johnson has had a difficult tour and struggled again yesterday. His Test place must now be on the line after his seven-over spell conceded 42 runs - a run a ball. (ANI)
