Cink defeats Watson in play-off to win British Open
July 20th, 2009 - 1:50 am ICT by IANSTurnberry (Scotland), July 20 (DPA) Stewart Cink defeated fellow American Tom Watson in a play-off Sunday to win the 138th British Open at Turnberry.
Both players finished tied on 2-under par after their final rounds on the Scottish links course but the world number 33 prevailed in the four-hole play-off to secure the first major victory of his career.
Watson, 59, was not only seeking a sixth Open crown but was also looking to become the oldest man in history to win a golfing major.
