Christina Gao and Other Asian Skaters Rise To Prominence

Jan 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Christina Gao, only 15 years old, hopes to make it to the Vancouver Winter games to be held in February this year. On Wednesday she got the 5th spot and competed well against veterans like Sasha Cohen. The girl loves skating and it is nothing short of a passion for her, In fact she began skating when she was a child of 7. She is a student in the Sycamore High School. Weihong Zhang, her mother is proud of the daughter and thinks that with proper training and exposure she will go a long way. The mother revealed that her daughter trains for 3 hours on a daily basis. It’s not that the practice has not yielded any results. Last year the girl took part in the U.S. championships and got a bronze medal.
Her mother said even if her daughter cannot go to Vancouver she will be happy with her achievements. She also said that by practicing and competing with some of the best skaters of the world, Christina Gao will be able to develop and improve her skills.
Whether Christina Gao makes it to the Vancouver winter games or not one thing has become clear. The Asian skaters are rising in prominence and they are giving their European and American counterparts a run for their money in the global scenario. This was proved by what another contender, Mirai Nagasu said. After winning the silver medal at the United States Figure Skating Championships she said that she would prove herself. The rise of role models like Michelle Kwan have inspired the Asian Skaters.
