Chris Leben Takes Down Yoshihiro Akiyama

ufc1July 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The UFC 116 clash between Chris Leben and Yoshihiro Akiyama was a highly anticipated one as the latter’s judo expertise and the formers street brawling techniques were evenly matched. The match met the expectations of the Chris Leben fans as he came out of a two round deficit to take down Yoshihiro Akiyama with a triangular choke in the third round. With the win Chris Leben established himself as a truly fearless competitor. His last win which came two weeks back was also highly talked about as he took down the till-then undefeated Aaron Simpson. Yoshihiro Akiyama came into the fight with a reputation that made him an international superstar and a Japanese-Korean Judoka.

The first round started well for Yoshihiro Akiyama as he utilized his Judo skills to his advantage. The two brawled on the feet and Yoshihiro Akiyama threw Chris Leben on the mat with his technical skill. He also struck effectively and tried some threatening takedowns against Chris Leben. The second round became a slug fest of sorts as the duo exchanged blows and Chris Leben proved that his chin was strong enough to take the blows of Yoshihiro Akiyama. The blows which send other fighters down on the ground, kept Chris Leben face up against the brawling Yoshihiro Akiyama. He also showed his agility as he swayed the head in speeds that looked almost beyond human ability.

In the third round Yoshihiro Akiyama came out slightly tired from the first two rounds and Chris Leben took full advantage of that. In the earlier match against Aaron Simpson he had used a similar technique of surprising a tiring opponent. Finally he managed to pin down Yoshihiro Akiyama with a triangle choke that followed an arm-bar attempt.
