New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS) Openers Aakash Chopra and Shikhar Dhawan slammed unbeaten centuries to steer Delhi to a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Punjab and earn full four points in the Ranji Trophy north zone one-day championships here Thursday. Left-handed Dhawan hammered 139 off 121 balls with 19 boundaries while his senior partner Chopra scored 130 off 140 balls, including 18 boundaries, as Delhi, chasing Punjab’s 274 for eight in 50 overs, finished with 277 for no loss in 43.3 overs at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium. Delhi’s facile win came with 6.3 overs to spare.
None of the six-man bowling attack conceded less then five runs per over. Pacer Manpreet Gony and left-arm spinner Ankur Kakkar were the worst affected of the Delhi onslaught as they conceded over seven runs per over.
Earlier, Delhi captain Mithun Manhas won the toss and asked Punjab to bat. Left-handers Uday Kaul and Ravi Inder scored 64 each while Ankur Kakkar, also a lefty, made 59 to take Punjab to a respectable total.
Pacer Amit Bhandari bagged two wickets for 43.
