Chitra, Praveen in title round of National Snooker

Pune, Jan 28 (IANS) Former World billiards champion Chitra Magimairaj from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu’s Neena Praveen entered the final of the women’s snooker event in the Manisha-National billiards and snooker championship, here Saturday.

In the semi-finals, Chitra overcame an in-form Arantxa Sanchis of Maharashtra 3-1, while Neena prevailed over Delhi youngster Keerath Bhandaal 3-2.

The Bangalore-based Chitra made sure that she did not get bogged down by Arantxa’s slow and safety play to win 65-15, 64-29, 48-64, 56-13 and Neena scraped past Keerath 52-31, 36-62, 53-51, 47-58, 61-23, winning the crucial third frame on the black ball.

In the placing matches, former champion R Uma Devi finished fifth beating Maharashtra’s Meenal Thakur 59-55, 67-47, while Heena Khandelwal of Maharashtra took the seventh position defeating Varsha Sanjeev of Karnataka 45-34, 72-42.
