Chirag hold Dempo goalless

Kolkata, March 28 (IANS) Chirag United failed to go for the kill after having title holders Dempo Sports, Goa, on the mat and remained content with a goalless draw in an I-League match at Barasat near here Saturday.
Playing at the Vidyasagar Krirangan, Chirag were clearly the better side on view as they dominated for most part of the 90 minutes. The Goans, on the other hand, seemed off colour.

Chirag came close to scoring in the 75th minute, but Muritala Ali could not put the ball home off a flag kick. With their strikers Ranty Martins and Roberto Mendes Silva policed to submission, Dempo could not make a mark in the attacking zone, as the local boys had a field day in the opening session.

Crossing over, man of the match Denson Devada of Chirag United came up with a brilliant effort in the 50th minute, but Dempo’s in-form custodian Abhijit Mondal proved equal to the task.

Twenty minutes later, Devdas let loose a rasping pile driver, but it was wayward.

After 20 matches, Chirag are on 22 points. Dempo have collected 27 points from 19 games.
