chileAsuncion, Paraguay, Nov. 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Its more than a decade that the Chile football team has last played the matches of the FIFA World Cup. Though the South American Football team has qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa, their chances of playing the World Cup is now at stake. According to the sources, Rangers a local club has filed a legal suit for some issues related to relegation, which might lead to expulsion of Chile from the World Cup matches.

Reports stated if Rangers does not withdraw the law suit within seventy hours, then Chile will not be able to play World Cup in South Africa in spite of qualifying for the one of the most prestigious tournaments in world sports. FIFA never approves any government or civil intervention in any issue regarding football and so Chile might not be allowed to play in the World Cup matches. Chile Federation, President, Harold Mayne-Nicholls said that FIFA does not expel a club and so they might expel the national team if the legal issues do not get resolved within three days. He also talked about the negative impact of this decision and said, “This could bring consequences that would be deadly for Chilean football.”

FIFA has always been strict about any kind of legal interventions in football related issues. Last year, Peru was suspended for such legal issues and Iraq team is also blacklisted from playing any FIFA competition. If the local club Rangers does not get the case dissolved withing the stipulated time then Ecuador or Costa Rica may qualify to Chile’s place in the FIFA World Cup 2010.
