Bangalore, June 22 (IANS) National champion S. Chikkarangappa had a tough time on the greens but, like a seasoned player, he hung on and grinded it out for a three-over 75 to hold onto his lead at the end of the second day of the Toyota Corolla Altis Southern India Amateur Golf Championship here Wednesday.

Chikkarangappa (70-75) held a two-shot lead over Rahul Ravi (75-72) and Khalin Joshi (75-72) who after par rounds were at total of 147 in a tie for the second on a windy day.

On a day when there were no sub-par rounds, Chandigarh’s Abhijit Chadha shot one-over 73 for a total of 149 along with Haryana’s Angad Cheema (75-74) and the winner of this year’s NCR Cup Delhi’s Kanishk Madan (74-75) for tied fourth place.

Chikka, who added the Inter State Championship recently to the All India Amateur he won in January, did have three birdies on the fifth, 10th and 15th but his double bogey on sixth, bogey on seventh and 13th meant he was over par. Then came the closing double bogey on 18th, as he lapsed in concentration.

“I putted very badly today. I lacked consistency and the two double bogeys proved very costly, especially the one on the 18th. On the 18th I hit right in the hazard and from there my ball went to the green but I missed a three footer for bogey,” Chikkarangappa said.
